□ Uganda’s village leaders visited and toured the Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) as trainees in Samseong-dong, Seoul on Apr. 20. The Ugandan delegation was composed of the public officials from the Ugandan Ministry of Local Government and community leaders. The study visit was organized with the aim of providing the opportunity to get an implementation plan that could be applied to Uganda through lectures and Q&A sessions on the development model for and the operation of Saemaul Geumgos in the 1960s and the 1970s. □ Kim Ki Chang, Executive Vice President of KFCC, offered a message of hope and support to the Ugandan trainees, emphatically saying, “South Korea’s experience in developing Saemaul Geumgos will serve as a catalyst in solving the poverty and enhancing access to finance in the Ugandan rural areas.” □ Based on the implementation agreement which was signed in 2016 between the Republic of Korea Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ugandan Ministry of Local Government, KFCC now supports the invitational and local training designed to develop and expand the financial cooperatives in Uganda and is discussing cooperative projects for Uganda with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Thus, KFCC will implement projects for the transfer of various Saemaul Geumgo models and for related cooperation.
